What to do if the person at fault has no insurance
The situation is unpleasant but not hopeless. Kazakhstan has an Insurance Payments Guarantee Fund that compensates injured parties when the person at fault in an accident is not insured under OGPO VTS (compulsory motor third-party liability insurance), has not been identified, or their insurance company has lost its licence.
What to do:
- call the police and have the accident recorded — without documents on the incident you cannot receive a payout;
- keep the contact details and information of the person at fault (if known), as well as photos and videos from the scene;
- prepare the documents and apply to the Fund or to an insurance company authorised to accept claims.
Damages can also be recovered from an uninsured person at fault through the courts. Insurance Center specialists will help you prepare the documents and tell you where to apply.
