Accident insurance: a payout when life suddenly changes your plans
An injury at the ice rink, a bad fall on ice, a crash on the way to the country house — such events happen unexpectedly and often mean costs for treatment and recovery. An accident policy provides a cash payout that you can spend as you see fit. On Insurance Center you can calculate the cost for yourself, your children or the whole family and compare offers from licensed insurers in Kazakhstan.
Who it is for
This is one of the most affordable types of personal insurance. It is chosen by those who want basic financial protection in case of injury without overpaying for a wide range of risks.
Especially relevant for
- Children and teenagers, schoolchildren and students
- People who do amateur sports
- Those who drive or travel a lot
- Elderly parents under 75
What consequences it covers
- Death as a result of an accident
- Disability resulting from an accident
- Injury, i.e. bodily harm
- Sum insured of your choice: from 500 thousand to 5 million ₸
What to check
Accident policies only look similar at first glance. Before you pay, check a few details.
- The injury payout table. What percentage of the sum is paid for a fracture, dislocation, burn or concussion.
- Time and territory of cover. Around the clock or only at certain hours, in Kazakhstan or abroad.
- Sports and hobbies. Whether training, competitions and active leisure are covered.
- Notification deadlines. Within how many days you must report an injury so as not to lose the right to a payout.
Important. The payout under an accident policy does not depend on how much you actually spent on treatment. It is a fixed amount or a percentage of the sum insured, so the money can be used for anything: medicines, rehabilitation, compensation for lost income.
When a claim may be refused
The insurer may not recognise the event as an insured event if the injury was caused by an illness rather than an external impact, if the person was intoxicated, deliberately harmed themselves, drove without a driving licence or took part in unlawful acts. A claim may also be refused if medical help was not sought in time, making it impossible to confirm the link between the injury and the incident. The full list of exclusions is set out in the insurance rules.
What affects the cost
The main factor is the sum insured: a policy for 5 million ₸ costs more than one for 500 thousand ₸. The second is the set of risks: if you add injuries to death and disability, the coverage becomes broader and the price rises. Age is also taken into account: for children and people over 60, rates usually differ from the base ones. Finally, the cost depends on the number of insured persons and on the rules of the specific insurer, including how it treats risky activities.
What to prepare
- ID card or the child's birth certificate
- IIN of each insured person
- Contact phone number and email
- Information about sports or dangerous hobbies, if any

What to do in an insured event
- Seek medical help immediately: go to an emergency room or clinic, or call an ambulance.
- Ask for a certificate or medical extract stating the diagnosis and the date of your visit.
- Notify the insurer or Insurance Center within the period set by the contract.
- Collect the documents: ID, medical reports and, in the case of a road accident, police documents.
- Submit a claim with your bank details and wait for the decision.
How to choose a programme
For a child or an active adult, it is worth choosing a policy that includes the injury risk — injuries are what happens most often. If the main goal is to support the family in the worst case, death and disability cover with a higher sum is enough. Compare not only the price but also the payout tables: the same injury may be valued differently by different insurers.
Also pay attention to the policy term. An annual policy is convenient because it protects you all year round without renewals, while a short-term one suits the period of a competition, a trip or a summer camp. If you do several sports or often change activities, check with the insurer in advance which of them are covered so as not to face an unexpected refusal.
